NaNoWriMo

It's National Novel Writing Month! The Rowing Cat has joined the Young Writers portion! She has pledged to write at least 15,000 words in November. The kids are told to just write and not be concerned with spelling or grammar. They'll go back and edit in December. She has been faithfully writing every day and she is having a blast! I'm so proud!!

Want to see what she's written so far?? Leave me a comment or email me and I'll forward a copy!

Happy Halloween!!

The weather here is perfect for Halloween. The temperature is mild (in the 50's) but the leaves are off of the trees allowing for lots of crinkling underfoot! Sophia is off trick or treating with my brother's kids. My brother lives next door to me and my parents live next to them. Can be good, can be bad . . .

My birthday was fun! Of course, I'm the last birthday in the roll call of birthdays in this house. My daughter turned 15 two weeks ago and my husband turned 50 last week, so my birthday is the last hurrah . . . But, I did get the popcorn maker that I asked for! It's the little things that count!

I also finished my challenge on the Erg yesterday morning! I ordered a teeshirt with the Skeleton Crew logo on it as my reward. I think I'll take tomorrow off from exercising and then pick it up again on Sunday. I think there is a mega challenge for the months of November and December so I'll be checking that out and signing up.

Sophia and I will be heading up to Camp Chingachgook later this afternoon for a dinner for the YKnot program. The Camp sponsors a sailing program for disabled sailors and the year end Sailabration dinner is Saturday night. Mark has to work, so we'll be going in his place.

My Birthday!

Today I turn 49. Whew. It's been a long road, but here I am sitting comfortably on my couch with my kitten curled up next to me for warmth. It's 5:30 am and the house is still quiet. I've had my coffee and my morning read - I'm currently working on Neal Stephenson's The System of the World. I just love a good story. Next up on the agenda is my morning workout on the Erg. I'm doing a Concept 2 Challenge - 31,000 meters between Oct. 25 and Oct. 31. That works out to 5000 meters per day which I can do in about 35 minutes. That I can do. My husband Mark is a rower - ask me how many sculls we own . . . and he bought the Erg in order to do winter workouts. He has finally convinced me to start using it. It really does give a great workout with no stress to the joints. But, knowing myself, I have to use the machine in the morning before everything else gets in the way.

Today at work we'll be having a birthday party! We have a birthday fund and get to choose what treat we would like. Today I've chosen bagels! So we'll start the day with a delicious breakfast! Tonight I think we'll have some take out Thai food and I suspect that there are a couple of presents coming my way!

Then I think we'll finish up with a movie. Should I knit or spin tonight? Hmmmm . . .
